“Contractor rolls out revised procurement strategy”

The challenge

An exceptionally successful national contract caterer was experiencing strong business growth but its central purchasing administration office was struggling to support the growing business. Whilst some supply categories were managed from centre, many supplier contracts were made locally. The result was pressure on the central finance team, poor purchasing rates and issues with their product due diligence. The installation of an e-procurement system started, but stalled, resulting in a de-motivated team having to re-think their strategy.

The solution

Acquire undertook a phased supplier/category review with the full involvement of representatives drawn from every layer of the contractor’s management team. Using the information gathered Acquire undertook a root and branch strategic review and investigated the causes of the e-procurement failure.

The report covered every aspect of the procurement process and identified a number of objectives for the future whilst making recommendations to deal with the immediate issues/problems that needed to be addressed in the short term.

The result

An internal supplier review committee process was adopted which resulted in a rationalised supplier base providing effective due diligence, improved purchase rates, improved central workloads and a cohesive product offering across the estate. Our Report findings were accepted which resulted in the existing e-procurement provider being terminated and replaced by Acquire’s epsys system. Acquire’s operational team are now embedded within our client’s organisation allowing us to maximise the benefits of our association at both the centre and out within the contractor’s estate.
