The challenge

Having undertaken a strategic study of its operation this well-established horse racing venue, hosting over 30 race meetings a year, took the decision to bring its catering and associated activities in-house.

This change of direction was partly borne out from a desire to get closer to its suppliers and to champion local products in an effort to support the local community. A tender for procurement expertise was issued by the client and our unique approach to the Client’s requirements resulted in our being appointed as their procurement consultants.

The solution

This project provided an opportunity to create a supply chain from the ground up and included many categories outside of food and beverage provision.

There were no pre-determined solutions and our willingness to seek out and work with new suppliers and add to the established network of regional suppliers meant that the final solution precisely reflected the client’s exacting standards and requirements.

The results

Suppliers of food and non-food products and services were introduced over the Christmas period ready for a New Year start. Significant cost savings were identified within both current and alternative suppliers and all arrangements were in place and ready for a successful meeting in January.

A local butcher, baker and other individual local suppliers were introduced, adding to the considerable provenance of this establishment and the CSR credentials it strived to improve.
